Here here!
There’s only one Scarlett O’hara
They recently did a full blown Gone With the Wind musical in London(and sure enough it bombed) and the girl they got for Scarlett was more cringe worthy than these actresses test screening above, it was REALLY BAD(though the guy they had for Rhett surprisingly wasn’t that bad, but he still was no Gable, but he was close)
@84toughgirl It is impossible. No one today could possibly do this film.
However, if I could cast it, Johnny Depp would be Rhett Butler, and Angelina Jolie would be Scarlett.
@sorg54 That’s why she won the Oscar for Jezebel.
I cannot believe how BAD they all were!!! Yikes! Goddard at least looked the part, but her acting, not so good.
I had no idea she was so tiny!
Heavens to Robert E Lee! What fascinating footage! Had no idea this was here at youtube until a friend told me. Though Vivien Leigh was sheer PERFECTION as Scarlett….a role she was CLEARLY born to play, if she had not been able to do it, I think Pauletter Goddard is the clear second best choice. And if Olivia De Havilland (also perfect in her role) hadn’t been able to do Melanie, I think Anne Shirley would have done a wonderful job. THANK YOU very much for sharing this with us!
vivien is scarlett o’hara
@sorg54 I agree with you about Bette Davis, but she had just done “Jezebel”,so they only tested her because she wanted to be tested for it.The only one that came really close to getting the part, besides Vivien Leigh, was Paulette Goddard, who imo was excellent and would have been a good choice.
Tallulah FTW!!!
i loved vivien
Vivien & Olivia = PERFECT <3333
Wow-loved Paulettes reading both Mammy and Scarletts parts.
It’s to bad this didn’t show the Bette Davis screen test, I think she would’ve played an incredible part, that is if she was cast.
Vivien Leigh was born to be Scarlett!!! Can’t imagine anyone else. frightening to even think of it. Vivien, Clark, Olivia… they WERE their characters!!!!! I just love them!!!
P.S. I trully think no one can ever make better this movie in any remake. Remake? Sounds impossible!!!
God all these others excluding Vivien, Olivia, and Leslie are extremely painful to watch. Talk about over acting and trying to hard.
Vivien is so much better than all of them, by far. I really do mean that.
@Messylin Ava was only 16 at the time and still in Hi School
It’s painful to watch someone else other than Vivien Leigh play Scarlett, I’m cringing watching all these actresses try SO DESPERATELY HARD to be Scarlett
At the time it was the most wanted role by all actresses, every actress vied to play Scarlet, including Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer but they couldn’t get a screen test. Every woman screen testing here fought tooth and nail for it
I agree- there’s only one Scarlett- and that was Vivien Leigh. I dont care she wasn’t from the South. She was just right for the part. T Bankhead was just like Bette Davis- too serious for the role. Vivien Leigh had all the qualities that it took to play Scarlett. Plus, she was a babe.
einfach stark dieses Filmmaterial aus dem Jahre 1938-…unbezahlbar
It seems to strange to see other women besides Vivien reading Scarlett’s parts… she was beyond perfect for the role. She WAS Scarlett O’Hara
The girl in 5:14 is also great))) Vievien is the best, but this girl is also nice))
@twinidee Agree totally.
who is this mary ray? can’t find anything about her…
@vonkvetch: Yes, she clearly got it because she had the perfect child-like, coquettish quality that was needed.to play a spoiled brat like Scarlett. The others were good, but they were too mature and therefore not as believable.
